HI! I'm Aimee

In today’s episode of Transmit Safety, join Aimee and Ashley Mckie to learn all you need to know about mergers & acquisitions as a Health & Safety practitioner.

Businesses are in business to be in business, and pursuing mergers and acquisitions is one of the strategies that businesses can take to achieve that.

So, as Health & Safety practitioners, it’s important to be aware that this is a possibility when working in an organization and that it will be our role to integrate and include the new business in the parent company’s Health & Safety program.

To help you better navigate mergers & acquisitions (M&A), Ashley Mckie who is the Director of Safety for Venturis Capital Corporation, a company that only recently made M&As a big part of their business, shares all about her experience with them, the lessons she learned along the way, how she got to where she is today, and some truly valuable advice for Health & Safety practitioners who are isolated and don’t have a Health & Safety team in their organizations.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Ways you can keep up with legislation across multiple jurisdictions
  • How the Health & Safety team can add value to the M&A process
  • The key role of relationship-building for successful acquisitions
  • Health & Safety programs and policies can and should be simple, accessible, and user-friendly
  • Ashley’s advice for Health & Safety practitioners navigating M&As
  • The importance of nurturing and growing both your professional development and that of your team members
  • Ashley’s advice for Health & Safety practitioners who don’t have a team

The Transmit Safety Podcast is here to help health and safety practitioners achieve a holistic approach to workplace health and safety so they can become impactful leaders and put the value of safety into action.

Quotes from this episode

“So when we’re going into an acquisition, obviously, no amount of reassurance will override human nature, to be worried about change.”

“You never want your policies to be so complicated that somebody has an immediate resistance to it.”

“If you don’t take care of the people, it’s really hard to take care of the rest of the business.”

“In order for you to step up, you need to bring somebody with you. So, for you to level up, you need to help somebody else level up and take over the skills or the tasks that you were currently doing.”
